Tonight's PAC meeting has been cancelled, as have all remaining PAC meetings for this year or until further notice. Karl and I have spent countless hours creating a calendar, finding and scheduling speakers, devising ways together with our Directors to do more outreach to our families - and other than the Christmas party, there have been a total of 3 other families besides our own who have participated in the other meetings since September.
We're busy people, ladies and gentlemen, and have given our time freely and without hesitation for the good of this group. If this is the response that we can count on, then we feel our time is being wasted. Further, it is embarassing to our districts to schedule speakers only to have them arrive and have no one show up.
No one understands the challenges we all face with our children better than we do; we get it! It is often impossible to find the time and the respite support to get out of our homes for any amount of time. When we do have the opportunity, we sure don't want to spend it at meetings. But we have also both seen over many years the benefits that groups like PACs can have to families and districts. We believe in the power of PACs when there is active participation and commitment by its members. Without participation, however, we have nothing. Even this blog has been virtually unused; a tool that we hoped would help assist us because you don't have to leave your home to connect with others.
We are both happy to assist families where we can and we wish you all the best for the remainder of the school year. If anyone would like to continue our efforts, please contact your district Special Ed. Director.
Thank you.

WELCOME AUBURN, MASSACHUSETTS FAMILIES!
Welcome to our blog - the place for sharing, support and information for parents of children with special needs in the Auburn, MA community. More and more parents are signing up to join our online community, and that is very exciting! It also means that our community recognizes the need to be supportive to each other and to our schools. Raising a child with any special need is at best, difficult, and at worst it is heartbreaking, frustrating, and exhausting. Emotions can run the gamut, from elation to anger. We need to support each other through all of it.
As the manager of several online support communities since 2003, I have seen people vent their frustrations in a seemingly secure environment, only to find out that their words and print have been shared and caused significant problems for them. Please remain cautious about negative comments toward any particular persons, districts or situations that could be hurtful or harmful to your family or anyone else's family. This blog is not being moderated, but there are members here who work in the school systems, who have been invited as part of our efforts to create a cohesive, transparent, supportive community.
If you are having trouble with your school district, team, administrator or teachers, the most appropriate place to discuss those concerns are with your child's team. Thank you!
