WELCOME AUBURN, MASSACHUSETTS FAMILIES!

Welcome to our blog - the place for sharing, support and information for parents of children with special needs in the Auburn, MA community. More and more parents are signing up to join our online community, and that is very exciting! It also means that our community recognizes the need to be supportive to each other and to our schools. Raising a child with any special need is at best, difficult, and at worst it is heartbreaking, frustrating, and exhausting. Emotions can run the gamut, from elation to anger. We need to support each other through all of it.

As the manager of several online support communities since 2003, I have seen people vent their frustrations in a seemingly secure environment, only to find out that their words and print have been shared and caused significant problems for them. Please remain cautious about negative comments toward any particular persons, districts or situations that could be hurtful or harmful to your family or anyone else's family. This blog is not being moderated, but there are members here who work in the school systems, who have been invited as part of our efforts to create a cohesive, transparent, supportive community.

If you are having trouble with your school district, team, administrator or teachers, the most appropriate place to discuss those concerns are with your child's team. Thank you!

New member intro

Hi! I just joined SEPAC blog and am new to SPAC in general. I have 2 children in Auburn schools, both at Pakachoag School. My son will be moving to middle school next year.

Joshua is in 5th grade and has been diagnosed with Central Aud Processing Disorder and ADHD. It's been a tough year for him. Meds not effective and school not following IEP very well. I know it's been because the teachers are being pulled out of the classroom an excessive amount of time. They are not getting regular subs either.

Ashley is in 3rd grade and was recently tested by a Behavior Optomotrist who suggested Vision Therapy. Not covered by insurance and very expensive. If anyone knows anything about eye teaming, focus, and eye tracking please share! I am researching age approp. issues that may resolve themselves. Ashley was prescribed glasses, vision is 20/20. I think me next step is an Opthamologist.

Looking forward to the support of this group.

  1. Hi Susan,
I just joined the group & read this post from a while back. I do know that Auburn Schools contract w/ a vision therapist for students who have the need. You might want to request an eval by the school to see if your 3rd grader would qualify to receive ther vision thereapy throught the school system. As you know, they have 30 days from the date of your request to do their eval, so you'd probably want to do it soon as the end of the year is near. Good luck w/ her. I hope you get some assistance. :) Bonnie
